The Best All-Terrain Tires for Snow: Winter Rated

All-terrain tires have exceptional treads that are made to function in a variety of on- and off-road situations, including snow, ice, and paved surfaces.

However, not all of them offer the best performance on snow, and with the many available options on the market, it can be difficult for drivers to find the right one. To find great all-terrain tires that can handle snow and ice, it’s important to consider certain factors such as size, rolling, budget, and traction, among others.

Based on the aforementioned factors, we have compiled a list of the top nine all-terrain tires for snow to assist you in making a smart decision.

The Best 9 Snow-Rated All-Terrain Tires

The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 is a dependable winter tire thanks to its responsive steering, balanced handling, and excellent snow traction.

The KO2 is a true trail tire with excellent snow traction and strong performance on hard-packed surfaces and shallow mud.

Furthermore, this tire performs admirably on the road. While it can be taken off the road anytime, it provides excellent highway stability in all weather conditions, with excellent grip and traction on wet and dry surfaces.

BFGoodrich provides a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty and a casing that can withstand cuts, chips, and punctures.

Toyo Open Country AT III

The Toyo Open Country A/T III isn’t as capable as other all-terrain tires, especially in wet conditions. It’s also a little louder, especially on the highway, but the ride is very smooth.

Nonetheless, this tire excels in other areas, including snow traction. The Open Country A/T III performs admirably on both packed and unpacked snow, with strong acceleration, braking, and cornering grip.

You’ll also get superb steering, good lateral grip on dry roads, and very short braking distances. The Open Country A/T III is a capable off-road tire as well, with fantastic traction on most surfaces except for large rocks and deep mud.

Toyo provides a treadwear warranty of 65,000 miles on P-metric sizes and 50,000 miles on LT-metric sizes.

  • Good grip on snow and ice

  • Noisy
  • Below-average wet performance

Michelin LTX A/T2

These tires are considered one of the best in the all-terrain category for retaining control in inclement weather. The Michelin LTX A/T2 tread pattern provides a lot of biting edges to help improve braking and snow traction.

Additionally, it helps to keep you comfortable, especially when you are travelling over large bumps. Off-road, this tire performs admirably on rocky, sandy, and hard-packed terrain, but it’s not the ideal choice for driving through thick muck.

It has one of the best warranties available, with a 60,000-mile warranty. The Advanced MaxTouch construction technology also helps extend the life of the tires and makes them last longer.

  • Superior dry handling
  • Responsive steering
  • Outstanding traction and grip on wet surfaces
  • Incredible performance on snow, dirt, and gravel

  • Not the best option for deep mud and sandy areas

Continental TerrainContact A/T

Few mid-range all-terrain tires can provide safe snow handling and performance, but the TerrainContact is an exception.

This tire offers various features at a stable and practical price for the user’s pocket. The price is low, but the benefits it provides are enormous.

Continental employs an innovative design with deep grooves and a fully symmetrical tread system to improve traction on various surfaces, including light snow.

The design also includes exclusive water resistance capabilities to ensure better road contact.

Moreover, the TerrainContact A/T has great wear resistance thanks to the +Silane compound, which has anti-wear properties that help to extend tread life. Conti offers a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty, which is excellent for its price.

  • Comfortable and quiet
  • Reliable snow performance
  • Exceptional wet-weather on-road traction
  • Long tread life
  • Exceptional traction in dry conditions for an all-terrain tire
  • Reasonably priced

  • Not the best for mud terrain

Falken WildPeak AT3W

The Falken WildPeak A/T3W is an all-terrain tire designed for winter driving, hence the “W” in the name.

With an obedient front end that follows your lead and a stable rear end, the WildPeak A/T3W is very easy to drive on snow-covered roads. The traction is also excellent; you’ll have no trouble accelerating or braking on packed snow.

Furthermore, the A/T3W performs well on unpacked snow, thanks to the aggressive tread pattern with deep grooves and large tread blocks. Ice traction isn’t as good, but that’s to be expected given that neither of its competitors is good on ice.

The 55,000-mile warranty also makes this a great tire for the money.

  • Affordable
  • Outstanding performance on snowy roads
  • One of the best all-terrain tires for off-roading
  • Excellent wet-weather braking and handling

  • Very noisy on the highway

Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar

The Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar tire combines the best of both worlds, providing the off-road capability for tough jobs and adding on-road stability when needed.

The three-peak mountain snowflake symbol on the tire indicates that it will work in some of the harshest winter conditions, such as ice and snow, making it nearly as good as a winter tire.

The unique tread design provides more traction on the road, even when the snow is unpacked.

This tire has Durawall Technology on the inside, making it one of the most durable all-terrain tires on the market. And with a treadwear warranty of 60,000 miles, you know this tire will last a long time.

  • Outstanding traction on slick surfaces
  • Excellent over-unpacked snow
  • Industry-leading warranty
  • Good performance on the road

  • Noisy on the highway

Sumitomo Encounter AT

The Sumitomo Encounter AT is one of the most affordable yet long-lasting all-terrain tires. It provides a well-balanced blend of characteristics that few can match for the price.

The aggressive tread pattern will give you awesome traction even when driving on unpacked snow. The Encounter AT even bears the 3PMSF logo on the side, which is quite impressive.

In addition to having outstanding traction on dirt, gravel, and turf, this tire model also has very good traction and handling on dry roads.

Sumitomo provides a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty on all sizes, which is simply exceptional for such a budget-friendly offering.

Overall, this all-terrain tire is excellent value. It can perform admirably on the road and will keep you safe in the winter.

Hankook Dynapro AT-M

The Hankook Dynapro is an excellent tire for a variety of road conditions. It was originally designed to fit the 2015 Ford F-150, but it can also be used on various other vehicles.

You can accelerate on packed or unpacked snow without any issues with this tire. Furthermore, handling on slick surfaces is safe and smooth, with short braking distances.

Surprisingly, the Dynapro AT-M performs well on icy surfaces, which most all-terrain tires cannot do.

These tires are also good if you need a tire that does well off-road. They do best on gravel and dirt but can do a bit of mud as well, as long as it’s not for long distances.

The Dynapro AT-M isn’t particularly responsive on the road, and the soft sidewalls give way during hard cornering. On dry roads, however, the tire is more than adequate for normal driving, and wet traction is also at par.

You will also notice how quiet and comfortable these tires are, especially when driving on the highway. Hankook provides a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty on the tire, which is impressive for the price.

  • Exceptional snow traction
  • Good performance on ice
  • Excellent traction on hard-packed surfaces such as dirt and gravel
  • Adequate traction in mud
  • Excellent wet traction and hydroplaning resistance
  • Very comfortable and quiet

  • It isn’t as responsive as other models
  • Not good for hard cornering.

Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3

The Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 features an innovative tread pattern with TractionClaw Technology that aids it in navigating through thick, unpacked snow on the road.

This tire guarantees excellent responsiveness and traction thanks to the unique tread pattern. Additionally, the design produces the necessary biting edges for traction on slick surfaces or compacted snow.

Not only that, but it is also effectively water-resistant. Deep initial tread depth, wide circumferential grooves, and shoulder clearance allow water to drain easily to resist hydroplaning.

The Dueler A/T Revo 3 also maximizes the user’s ability to handle high speeds. It is constructed with scratch- and tear-resistant materials, and the wide shoulder blades enhance stability during your quick maneuvers.

Bridgestone provides a 60,000-mile treadwear warranty on P-metric, and a 50,000-mile treadwear warranty on LT-metric sizes, both excellent numbers.

  • Safe traction and braking in light and heavy snow
  • Excellent traction and surefooted handling on dry roads
  • Responsive and accurate steering for an all-terrain tire
  • Very smooth ride, even when driving over rough patches

  • Deep mud traction isn’t stellar
