Although all-season tires are designed to perform well in a variety of conditions, they are not specifically designed for winter weather. Winter tires are made from a different type of rubber compound that remains pliable in colder temperatures. This helps the tire maintain traction on cold, icy roads.
Another important difference between winter and all-season tires is the tread pattern. Winter tires feature deeper tread grooves than all-season tires to help displace water and slush from under the tire. The deeper tread also provides additional traction in snow.
Winter tires can be a great investment. Not only can they help you stay safe on the roads, but they can also help you save money on fuel by improving traction and reducing rolling resistance.
